Jock Gallagher 1919-2013

An interim post to say something about Jock, who has passed away after a long illness.

Jock was a coach at the club for a number of years in the late eighties and early nineties. He coached our daughter for a couple of years and a number of other athletes, including his grandson, Peter Storkey. His methods were a bit old-fashioned, but his warmth and genuine love for the athletes he worked with were obvious to everyone and much valued.

Jock was a Glaswegian, as the name suggests. He was in the RAF for many years and competed as a professional athlete in the days when that was very much frowned on by the athletics establishment. He won the Powderhall Sprints more than once and the money that gained him disqualified him from ever competing in AAA events.

He remained active well into his eighties and always wanted to know how Kate was getting on and took great delight in her achievements.

A lovely man.
